Involve

Involve is a factory and office building located in Nisshin, Aichi, Japan. The plan follows an equiangular spiral, also called a logarithmic spiral. The spiral layout guides workers along curved paths, so contact between colleagues happens often. The frequent contact is intended to improve quality and productivity. The spiral geometry also allows columns, beams and cross bracing to repeat the same connection details, and only the length of each member changes. The building sits on a hill like a stone sculpture, and new trees recall the forest that once covered the site.

Ortho

The exterior is defined by two massive, offset concrete volumes with a board-formed finish. On the main level, a small courtyard and a large garden terrace on the south side serve as intermediary zones where the residents can enjoy the distinctive outdoor environment of a ranch-style home while maintaining privacy. The clients purchased the tiered, irregularly shaped lot as a place to spend meaningful time as a family.

House in Akashi

House in Akashi is a single-storey house designed to bring daily life close to nature. The house is divided into three zones, based on purpose and degree of privacy, and each zone has its own garden and concept. Areas for family life, harvest and the enjoyment of nature are tailored to the interests of the client. Communal space is kept large and private rooms small, which encourages a social atmosphere. The enclosed courtyards bring soft daylight indoors and blur the boundary between inside and outside. The structure is built entirely of timber, following a traditional Japanese method.

Interpolation

Interpolation is an art gallery designed within Seokchon Lake Park in Seoul. The park contains a lake and two separate ring paths, one inner and one outer, divided by a four meter difference in elevation. The gallery forms an organic passage that links the two paths and creates a new gateway into the park. The building mass is clad in curved aluminum panels, and the deck that meets the landscape is finished in exposed concrete. Ground source heat pumps and roof photovoltaic panels reduce energy use. The intent is to bring art into daily life.

Pixel

Pixelhouse is a residential building designed as the home of an extended family in Ahmedabad, India. The design balances the need for privacy with shared family life across three floors. Offsets and stacked volumes create a stepped form with sheltered balconies and planted terraces that also serve as outdoor gathering areas. A central atrium staircase is lit by a skylight, and every bathroom receives daylight from above. Wood, stone, exposed brick and concrete provide thermal mass, while rainwater harvesting, solar panels and double glazing reduce energy use.

The Fifth Element

The house consists of five parallel rectangles. Garage and Spa blocks are displaced to the living volume. They protect it from prying eyes and form a compact field for the entrance and recreation areas, resp. Spa hangs on the console above the ground and is opened to nature by its glazing. The facades facing the forest feature full-size windows that fill the living spaces with light and air. Water installation of the terrace creates a microclimate in the summer heat. The two-storied tower of living room forms vertical axis, which subordinates all the elements of the building and landscape.
