Hebei Hua Ao Hospital

Hebei Hua Ao Hospital is a trauma treatment center built in Zhangjiakou, China. The design concept is a snow ribbon, expressed as a horizontal facade with window heights that change with orientation and function. The varied windows control sun shading and daylight and reduce the need for air conditioning. Solar collector panels on the roof save electric energy. Waiting seats are arranged in enclosed groups to encourage communication, and artworks and landscape features are placed indoors to help patients feel calm. The hospital combines treatment, rehabilitation and education functions.

Qingdao Pingdu Olympic Center

Qingdao Pingdu Olympic Center is a sports complex built in Pingdu, Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. The complex holds a stadium with 15,000 seats, a basketball hall with 7,000 seats and a natatorium with 1,500 seats. Rencent Office Center

Rencent Office Center is an office building on the coast of Qingdao. The building slabs are extended in line with the surrounding shoreline, echoing the terrain and the nearby buildings. Sea view windows are set between the slabs like floating boxes. Facing the city, the facade is treated as a scene frame with a diagonal cut. Only three materials are used: glass, stone and dark metal. A sunken plaza resolves the two story height difference across the site and improves the circulation of the building spaces.

Yueyun Teahouse

Yueyun Teahouse is a community center set between the mountains and the sea in Xiamen. The building form follows the Fibonacci spiral, also known as the golden spiral, and is controlled by the golden ratio. The final shape resembles a conch shell and responds to the coastal setting. A curved full glass curtain wall makes the ground level visually transparent and lets sunlight and air enter. A covered bridge finished in metal panels contrasts with the garden and forms a visual center. About 1000 aluminum plates of different sizes were joined to shape the thin spiral.
