Muh Shoou Xixi

Muh Shoou Xixi is a hotel set within the Xixi Wetland. The hotel is renovated from five old buildings that stood on the site. The structural transformation was made with minimal intervention, so the buildings connect smoothly with the surrounding forest and water system. Trees with a trunk diameter of 10 centimeters or more were recorded by species, name and root level, and the layout follows the original vegetation, mainly persimmon trees. A banquet hall of 300 square meters is enclosed by windows on three sides. A water route based on the original landform allows arrival by boat.

The Peach Garden

In this project, the designer shows enough respect for the old house during the reconstruction. The addition part adopts the form of wood structure, which not only makes the connection between new and old buildings appear natural, but also makes the new part have a light feeling, as well as continuous space. At the foot of the mountains and the Great Wall, the transparent interface is impressive, especially when architecture and nature blend each other.

Sun Shed

Sun Shed is the renovation of an agricultural shed into a banquet hall on an ecological farm in Jiangsu, China. The layout replaces the common middle-axis plan with a circular arrangement that radiates from a central stage, so guests are seated without primary and secondary positions. Twelve tree-shaped columns woven from yellow-brown bamboo hide the original steel pillars and form a forest within the hall. Yew seedlings grown on the farm surround the space. The renovated hall also hosts meetings, performances and other social events.

Faculty Architecture of Kigali

Faculty Architecture is a school of architecture in Kigali, Rwanda, planned for 600 students on a site of 5,600 square metres. The design starts from a simple volume on two levels. The volume is pulled apart on opposite sides, which creates a central gap that forms an outdoor space for students. Stone is used for the exterior envelope and self-coloured concrete for the interior. Small windows face outward, while large inward-facing windows are shaded by roof overhangs. Truncated upper sections bring in daylight and improve ventilation.

Guilin

Guilin is a culture and tourism exhibition center designed as a minimalist glass cube. The building covers 4021 square meters. The glass curtain wall is built with cantilever glass ribs set vertically in two densities and heights. The ribs form three levels of hill shades on the elevation, read as close, medium and distant views. Overlapping transmission, reflection and refraction between the glass layers shift with the light. A bamboo gallery follows the main route inside the showroom. The design turns the landscape of Guilin into built form.

Borgio Verezzi

Borgio Verezzi is a residential building located in Caxias do Sul, in the south of Brazil. The building has twenty-two floors, with one apartment per floor. Each apartment offers 280 square meters of private area and four suites. The form is a vertical monolith with volumes removed at the corners, where large balconies are placed. The balconies are extended to improve the view and the sunlight on each floor. Ceramic tiles, granite, exposed concrete and double glazing are used on the facades. Energy efficiency and water saving solutions are also applied.
