House On Pipes Weekend Getaway

House On Pipes

A grid of slender steel pipes laid out in a staggered manner minimise the building footprint while providing the rigidity and stability to hoist the living space above this. This has been further aided by the intentional staggering of the Fly ash blocks on the facade with the resultant void and shadow naturally cooling the building. Elevating the house also ensured that the Landscape was uninterrupted and the views were unrestricted.

Interpretation of Romanesque

The building consists of seven exposed concrete volumes of different heights, and each volume forms a separate exhibition space. A central hall covered with glass connects the volumes and leads to their entrances. The contrast between the bright hall and the darker exhibition rooms guides the visit. Each ceiling reinterprets a roof type from Romanesque architecture. The wood-textured concrete facades recall the stone and wood of older local buildings.
