Faculty Architecture of Kigali Education School

Faculty Architecture of Kigali

Faculty Architecture is a school of architecture in Kigali, Rwanda, planned for 600 students on a site of 5,600 square metres. The design starts from a simple volume on two levels. The volume is pulled apart on opposite sides, which creates a central gap that forms an outdoor space for students. Stone is used for the exterior envelope and self-coloured concrete for the interior. Small windows face outward, while large inward-facing windows are shaded by roof overhangs. Truncated upper sections bring in daylight and improve ventilation.

Flying Exhibition Center

Flying

Fly is an urban art experience center located in Jiangyin, China, on the edge of the Yangtze River. The building is arranged around a landscape pool that brings river water into the setting. Cantilevered structures are used, so no column grid is visible from the outside. Two large blocks resemble a pair of wings above the water. The exterior is made of white and gray aluminum panels with beige marble. Turning and interwoven volumes soften the boundary between inner and outer space. A quiet path crosses the water and links the display areas. The center covers 21527 square feet.

Muh Shoou Xixi Hotel

Muh Shoou Xixi

Muh Shoou Xixi is a hotel set within the Xixi Wetland. The hotel is renovated from five old buildings that stood on the site. The structural transformation was made with minimal intervention, so the buildings connect smoothly with the surrounding forest and water system. Trees with a trunk diameter of 10 centimeters or more were recorded by species, name and root level, and the layout follows the original vegetation, mainly persimmon trees. A banquet hall of 300 square meters is enclosed by windows on three sides. A water route based on the original landform allows arrival by boat.
